Pour quoi frog?

Why frogs? Well, why not. These frogs are for Darcy, who has been in isolation in The Sydney Children's Hospital. If you want to follow Darcy's progress check out the journal updates here: www.caringbridge.org/visit/darcygilmour10/journal

If you want to make a frog you can find instructions at: http://www.savethefrogs.com/teachers/images/Origami-Jumping-Frog.pdf .

If frogs are beyond you, you can also give blood. Details of how available from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - final installment

Finally, once the snows had come...

a frog decided to break in.

But to no avail.

Even when they had pulled the house apart ...

....there was no sign of Frog and Potato.
They had fled.

Two of the older frogs took their problem to the wise old owls.
"What shall we do?" they croaked.
The owls thought long and hard.  "Let them love", they finally said.  "Love is the only answer".

The frogs could not bear to be separated forever from Frog. So they approached the potatoes, who felt the same way about Potato, and they shared with them the message from the owls.

Messengers were sent out bearing a white feather of peace.

They found Frog and Potato.
And asked them to come home.

And finally, after years and years of tribal warfare,
peace came to the garden.....

....becuase a Frog and a Potato dared to fall in love.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - part seven

The frogs were furious!

They were convinced that potato girl had mashed their frog's brains.

"We will pursue them", they cried.

And they did.  Right into the heart of the fire-swamp to the little cottage.

"Come Out", they cried.
"We've got you surrounded!"

But Frog and Potato stayed safe inside the house and did not move.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - part six

Frog and Potato ran for it.

They ran and ran, into the depths of the fire-swamp, until they came to a little cottage, standing all alone in a clearing on the dining room table.

"It's beautiful", breathed Potato.
(Remember, Love is blind)

"It's got it's own fruit trees", said Frog.

"We'll take it!", they declared.

And they moved in right away.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - part five

Potato arranged to meet with Frog. With tears in her eyes she told him they must sacrifice their love for the sake of Frog's safety.

Frog refused to hear of it.

"This is true love", he said. "You think this happens every day?"

But just as Potato fell into frogs arms.....

The two tribes gathered around them - determined to put a stop to this most unnatural love.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - part four

Potato had never met anyone like Frog before.

At first she was shocked that a frog should even dare to approach her.  But she was soon won over by his constant attentions (and flowers) and, as she drank in the sweet scent of the roses, allowed herself to dream of where this all might lead...

And that's when the doubts began to set in.

A frog.

Courting a potato.

Such a thing had never happened.

She tried to imagine what it would be like bringing Frog home to meet her family.

She feared the reaction of her brothers who had a reputation amongst the potatoes of being particularly anti-frog.

When she pictured what might happen to Frog she knew she would have to break it off.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - part three

Frog decided he would go courting.

On their first date he took flowers.

On their second...

... he recited poetry ...

 ... until...
....she let him close enough to give her a kiss.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - part two

Frog was smitten.
He couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, could barely manage a croak.

The other frogs tried to get him to join in their games, but he just hopped off to be by himself.

And read some poetry.

La grenouille et la pomme de terre - a love story

Once upon a time there was a frog who lived in a pond.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the garden, a potato lived in the vegetable patch.

One day, frog had reason to visit the vegetable patch.  And there, beside the strawberry plant, he first laid eyes on the potato.

To be continued....

When two tribes go to war

Forget your Montagues and your Capulets. Forget your Jets and your Sharks.

If you want to see tribal warfare you need look no further than......

Frogs

and Potatoes.

If a potato so much as looks sideways at a frog things can get out of hand in no time at all.
And amphibian/vegetable warfare is not pretty.

From any angle.

(and yes, they really are potatoes, not Dr Who extras.
The vegetable drawer seems to have got a little out of hand...)

Dr Frog

After many minutes of training the frogs grad uate from the Gilmour Medical School - a prestigious private university.

Safety first - sometimes it is good to be sterile.

"What do you think happens if I push this one?"

"I don't know what you are listening for but I think you need to retrain - that's nowhere near my heart".

Isolation's not the worst thing

OK, so you can't get out for Wok Master,
but on the up side, these Gilmour frogs know you can get .....

Priority possession of the remote control.

And all the essential vitamins and minerals in one easy package!

What's not to love?

Short frog syndrome

Frogs with a desire to be taller seek advice from some cranes.

(with thanks to Melissa M for this)

In the beginning (part two)

These frogs (on display in The Children's Hospital, Randwick) are the creative genius of Jerry Weala. They sparked Darcy's initial interest, so we thought it timely to give credit and acknowledge the true (squid free) beginning of frogs on blogs.

Frog spawn

Frogs lay eggs.

Don't they?

In the beginning

In the beginning was the squid, and the squid was with God.

And God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void except for the cork tiles in the kitchen.

And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be frogs: and there were frogs. Green and Pink created he them.

And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply.

So they did.

Frogs on film

A stop-motion film about frogs?

I shall call it.....
Frogs on a plane!

Safety first.

Seatbelt done up low and tight.

 Which way to first class?

OK - so it's only economy, but this looks very much like a free lunch.
And they said there was no such thing!

Frogs get their priorities right

We've all heard of chocolate frogs - but coffee frogs are much more cool.
