A new challenger has entered the kitchen.
The rather well equipped domestic kitchen* of the Irvine family.
Under the artistic direction of one Rosemary Irvine, with Specialist Batter Consulting Services from Visiting English Claire, and Onion Gravy Services courtesy of mum, the toads have leapt first into the hole and then onto the plate and down the throats of the waiting crowd.
First the preparation:
Although initially self assessed as no mess (see scores below) I think we can all spot that flour has been spilt and measuring cups and bowls used in the making of these toads.
Then...
...the reveal.
And finally, the taste test.
It would appear
(or disappear)
... to have been a success.
Self assessed scores as follows:
Flavour
Pretty good, nice sausages, with excellent accompanying onion gravy.
Score 4/5
Presentation
Puffed up well, nicely browned, however too rustic to look elegant on the plate.
Score 3/5
Innovation
Where is the innovation in toad in the hole?
Score 2/5
(Editor's comment: possibly in the onion gravy?)
Clean-up
Cleaned up as we went.
Score 5/5.
(Editor's note - but you still made mess so that should be taken into account in scoring thus reducing your score to 4/5).
Total
14 (or if the editor prevails, 13)/20.
*Further editor's note - this is an excellent result but in a tie-breaker, the excellence of the fully equipped domestic kitchen will also be taken into account.
Stay tuned for the product of the Randwick Challenger.
The show has been recorded but temporary technical difficulties are preventing upload.
Soon we will be able to answer the all-important question: Whose cuisine reigns supreme?
