Pour quoi frog?

Why frogs? Well, why not. These frogs are for Darcy, who has been in isolation in The Sydney Children's Hospital. If you want to follow Darcy's progress check out the journal updates here: www.caringbridge.org/visit/darcygilmour10/journal

If you want to make a frog you can find instructions at: http://www.savethefrogs.com/teachers/images/Origami-Jumping-Frog.pdf .

If frogs are beyond you, you can also give blood. Details of how available from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

At home with Quentin

Turns out "At home with Quentin" (Bryce the Govenor General), means just that.
The day the frogs went to vist, the lovely GG was there - mingling.
How nice.
She has a big house.

With a pool.

And some pretty pink trees.

And, of course, some helpful friends to do the odd spot of gardening.
Perhaps it's a family thing?

At home with (out) Julia (4)

Turns out the Lodge has a lot going for it.
Interesting sculpture (frog is just to the right of the central sticky-uppy bit).

An embedded basketball hoop (we think the Keating boys might be the right era).

A working bubbler.

A tennis court.
Julia and Tim do not appear to be winter tennis players.

A fiddle fern.

And a frog pond.

But best of all, a fantastic hill.
Just made for rolling down.

Vote 1 Frog for PM!

I get by with a little help from my friends

Frog has been feeling a little the worse for wear.
Thank goodness there are friends to hand to help him get out and about.

Dragon frog ?

The authors of this blog happen to know that whilst some members of the Gilmour family quite like frogs, others are enamoured of dragon flies.

So we thought we'd try and bring the two things together.

Step by step..

.. the transformation takes place.
From dragon fly, to tadpole...

to frogs!

At home with (out) Julia (3)

A little exploration reveals that Julia and Tim are probably NOT vegetarians...

And the size of the cooking pots suggests they often have guests drop in.

It's nice to have friends drop around to help with the gardening.

At home with(out) Julia (2)

The frogs want to see everything.

Close inspection reveals this is.....
.. a hedge!

And look: Diosma trimmed to look like... something.

Ah - at last. The entrance to the house itself.

Unfortunately there's no photography inside (but the frogs report some lovely artworks - including a truly gorgeous Fred Williams - and a number of happy snaps of Jules and Timbo) but the frogs agree that breakfast should be taken under the wisteria - there's a bench just made for a large family.

Oh - and come summer, this little spot would probably have some potential.

Frogs get into the darnedest places

Mr Plumbean, whose usual office is bearer of citronella candles,
has something stuck between his teeth ...

At home with(out) Julia

A cold spring day in Canberra.

Some frogs are just hanging around.
 Or are they?

It seems they are making the froggy equivalent of a queue...

...to spend a day wandering around Julia and Tim's house.

First built in the 1920s (and deliberately built small so as not to look too ostentatious when the rest of the country was suffering through a depression), the Lodge was first occupied by the Bruce family. Classic Australian name. And, interestingly enough, Bruce was the first incumbent Prime Minister to lose his seat at an election; the only other being John Howard in 2007.

Stay tuned....

Food for thought (3)

Raw (roar?) or cooked.

Rosemary is constantly trying to stop Stephie from eating the frogs.

Food for thought (2)

Frog is at a Korean restaurant, considering what looks good on the menu.

Not quite so sure about this option....

Food for thought

Here's Frog, about to get stuck into a strawberry.

Honestly.

He's not even vaguely interested in the sugar coated lemon ricotta donuts...

The Eiffel Tower - a Potato-Eye view

A winter spent in the deconstructed pond waiting for Frog to knit their new home has been hard on Potato.  She's not just feeling her age - she's looking it too.

She loves her husband so she wants to support him in all his endeavours.
But even her love is not so blind that she can't see the flaw in Frog's cunning plan.

It's not so much a tower....

...as  a large grey knitted triangle thrown over a light shade.

And an indoor light at that.

She sweetly suggests to Frog that a little more work may be required before they can move in to the Eiffel Tower.

Frog's cunning plan

At last...
 .. after a huge effort...
Frog's hand-knit Eiffel Tower...
...starts to look like a tower.
The view from the top is pretty fine.

From the ground up

Being a bloke (and no offense to blokes, I'm just telling it like it is), Frog didn't actually read the instructions for the knitted Eiffel Tower.

So he's having to work it out as he goes along.

Having finally got it all laid flat, he tries to work out how to make it stand upright.

Nope.

Double nope.
