Want to communicate with frogs? 

Perhaps (in a "the medium is the message" kind of a way) talking on a frog is as good as talking to a frog. 

Here are some options:

This Frog phone has some kind of wind-up mechanism and a whole load of eco-credentials.

This one comes from Taiwan, has the numbers inside (his mouth flips open so you can dial and talk) and his eyes light up when there's an incoming call.

And this one is just cute and fluffy.  Awwwww. 

Imagine having that snuggled up to your ear. 

No one can hear you scream

So it may be true that in space no one can hear you scream.

But that ain't necessarily so down here on earth.

Here's a dude we've met before doing a fine impersonation of a chicken.

Which is impressive considering he's a frog.

Ducks in Space?

Japanese tree frogs have been to Space.

Apparently a couple of them went with a Japanese journo when he went to Mir.

And the mating call of the Japanese tree frog (which may or may not have been heard in space*) sounds like a duck.

* remember, in space, no one can hear you quack.

You know, there really have been frogs in space. 

In 1961 the russians sent a frog into (shallow) space.

And not to be outdone, in 1967 the Yanks sent frogs eggs into space.

In 1970 two bullfrogs went on a one-way mission on the Orbiting Frog Otolith satellite to better understand space motion sickness. How did they report back?

It took until the 1980s before the first newts made it to space (crazy Russians again).  And after that they became quite popular.

Frog is a bit excited after his encounter with the Spaceman.

He is keen to find out more about the Universe and how to get around it.

He heads to Tidbinbilla - to the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.

(Where do you go if you want to communicate in shallow spaces?)

But antennas being what they are (sensitive souls, apparently), you have to turn off your phone/camera before you go in.

So Frog had to reconstruct the experience at home using post cards.

But the effect is quite realistic, don't you think?

The scale of the antennas is quite impressive. Set in the middle of a cow paddock too.

Who turned out the light?

A little accident at the cafe.... No use crying over spilt milk.
